Abstract (German)

Das Denken über Bilder und Sprache ist dichotomisch. Es konzentriert sich auf folgende Oppositionen: Auf der Seite von Bildern figurieren Ähnlichkeit, Nichtarbitrarität und Natürlichkeit. Auf der Seite von Sprache figurieren Nichtähnlichkeit, Arbitrarität und Künstlichkeit. Die Arbeit stützt sich auf die Denkposition, dass Bilder keine spontan verständlichen natürlichen Zeichen sind. Ihre Bedeutung ist gebrauchsabhängig. Jemand, der ein Bild in dokumentarischer Art und Weise verwendet, verwendet es anders als jemand, der es in fiktionaler, illustrativer oder dekorativer Art und Weise verwendet. In Wittgenstein�scher Manier ausgedrückt, wir spielen verschiedene Bildspiele.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Theoretical concepts about pictures and language are dichotomic. They focus on the following oppositions: On the side of pictures appear similarity, non-arbitrarity and naturalness. On the side of language appear non-similarity, arbitrarity and convention. This research is based on the position that pictures are not spontaneously understandable natural signs. Their meaning depends on use. To use a picture in a documentary way means to use it different than in a fictional, illustrative or decorative way. To say it in Wittgenstein´s manner, we play different pictorial games.
