Abstract (German)

Nächtliche Schlafapnoe hat sich als ernst zu nehmender kardiovaskulärer Risiokofaktor herausgestellt. Die nachts wiederholt auftretende sympathische Aktivierung während Episoden mit Apnoeereignissen trägt zu dieser Problematik bei. Der Effekt von Hypopnoen bzw. Phasen ohne Apnoen/ Hypopnoen direkt vor und nach nächtlichen Atemereignissen wurde bisher nicht näher untersucht. Zur Analyse der sympathovagalen Balance nutzten wir die Power spectral Analyse der Herzfrequenzvariabilitätsdiagnostik. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der Effekt von nächtlichen Hypopnoen bzw. Apnoen auf das autonome Nervensystem ausgeprägter ist, als man es durch die konventionelle Polysomnographie-Analyse einschätzen würde.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Sleep apnea has emerged as a major cardiovascular risk factor. Repetitive sympathetic activation during episodes of apnea contributes to this relationship. The effect of hypopnea and non-apneic, non-hypopneic intervals before and after hypopnea/apnea on sympathico-vagal balance have not been assessed yet. We used power spectral analysis of heart rate variability for assessing sympathico-vagal balance. Qur results show that the effect of sleep disordered brething on alteration of autonomic tone is more severe than estimated by conventional polysomnographic assessment.
