Abstract (German)

Mortalität und Prognosefaktoren bei Patienten mit Obesitas-Hypoventilationssyndrom (OHS) unter nicht-invasiver Beatmung (NPPV) wurden untersucht.
Gasaustausch und Lungenfunktion bei OHS Patienten verbesserten sich nach Einleitung einer nicht-invasiven Beatmungstherapie, Hypoxämie, Alkalose und erhöhte Entzündungsparameter erwiesen sich als Indikatoren für ein schlechteres Überleben.
NPPV war gut toleriert und das Langzeitüberleben war hervorragend im Vergleich zu einem Kollektiv aus einer vergangenen Untersuchung.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Mortality and prognostic factors in patients with obesity-hypoventilation syndrome (OHS)undergoing noninvasive ventilation were observed.
Gas exchange and lung function in OHS were improved after initiation of noninvasive ventilation (NPPV), hypoxemia, high pH and elevated inflammation markers predicted poor survival.
Overall, NPPV was well tolerated and survival was excellent when compared with data from historical matched controls.
