Abstract

We study classical transport properties of a two- dimensional electron gas subject to a spatially periodic magnetic field and to a time-dependent (ac) electric field. We investigate the case of a strong one-dimensional magnetic modulation and show how the chaotic electronic motion affects the conductivity of the sample. The dependence of the longitudinal conductivity on the amplitude of the ac field clearly reflects the arising of coupled chaotic phase-space areas as well as features of anomalous diffusion of the charge carriers.
