Abstract

cf. Naturwissenschaften 46, 378(1959), and preceding abstr. Benzophenone imine (I), benzophenone methylimine (II), benzophenone ethylimine (III), benzophenone anil (IV), and acetophenone anil (V) were reduced with Mg-MgI2 mixt. (VI) and Al-Hg (VII). I gave with VI diphenylmethylamine which was condensed with I to 62.8% benzophenone diphenylmethylimine. With VII, I gave 52.4% diphenylmethylamine and 41.2% bis(diphenylmethyl)amine. II gave in both cases methyl(diphenylmethyl)amine (55.0 and 85.1%), and III gave ethyl(diphenylmethyl)amine (61.5, and 85.9%). IV gave N,N-bis(diphenylmethyl)aniline (89.5 and 87.1%). V gave N-(1-phenylethyl)aniline (35.0 and 14.2%) and 2,3-dianilino-2,3-diphenylbutane (10.8 and 47.9%).
