Abstract
The activity of 43 diamino-1,3,5-triazines I (R1 = Cl, SMe, SH, OMe, or OH; R2 and R3 = H, Me, Et, Pr, iso-Pr, Bu, iso-Bu, C2H4OMe, C3H6OMe, or C2H4CN) was tested against the potato virus X in Nicotiana tabacum. Hydrophobic, electronic, and steric substituent effects were considered, and variance and discriminant anal. were carried out. A discriminant function is given for classification into antiphytoviral and inactive classes. Alkoxy substitution of the secondary amines seems to confer antiphytoviral activity.
