Synthesis of an Amino Acid with Protected Cyclen Side Chain Functionality

Starting from glutamic acid an artificial amino acid with 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) side chain functionality is prepared. The orthogonal protected building block allows the facile introduction of a metal ion binding site into peptide structures.
