Research Data - Definition

"In principle, research data (...) are all data that are created and/or processed in a course of a scientific discovery process."*

Search for Research Data

When searching for research data or suitable repositories, also for publishing own research data, the following platforms can be useful:

  • Publication Server of the University Regensburg (you can find more information about the UR Publication Server here)
  • multidisciplinary repositories, e.g. zenodo
  • re3data: directory of repositories, e.g. sorted by subject
  • EUDAT CDI: directory of general and subject-specific repositories at european level

Research Data on the Publication Server

The UR Publication Server offers all researchers the possibility to publish both texts and research data. The latter include datasets, experimental descriptions, images, audio and video files, as well as software.

Research data on the publication server

  • can be directly linked to the publications resulting from it,
  • receive a DOI (digital object identifier) to make it permanently citable,
  • are stored either freely accessible (open access) or access-protected,
  • are archived for the long-term,
  • can be assigned as a supplement in publisher publications, and
  • comply with the Universität Regensburg Regulations for Ensuring Good Academic Pracitce (see Guidelines and Orders).
