The goal of this thesis was the synthesis of new ionophores and the investigation of their binding properties. For the search of new binding motives, two approaches were carried out. These are on the one hand the rationale molecule design and on the other hand screening methods with efficient examination methods.
In the first approach a binding motive for a specific guest ion - in this case the nitrate ion - was calculated by quantum chemical design and afterwards a ionophore structure is proposed and synthesized.
A trigonal planar configuration of three thiourea units calculated by design on DFT level proves to be a good candidate for the binding of nitrate ions. For the corresponding synthesized macrocycles a form selective 1:1 binding of the nitrate ion in DMSO can be shown by 1H NMR experiments. Small differences concerning flexibility of the ionophore and geometry of the binding motive show a big influence towards the binding constant.
The comparison of binding constants from 1H NMR titrations towards several different anions selectivities can be evaluated. The binding was additional investigated with ion selective membranes and sensor membranes based on emulsion.
Another approach for an efficient search of new selective binding motives was the optimization of screening methods to allow a fast determination of selectivity coefficients. In this context competitive coextraction and cotransport experiments were developed. These allow to determine selectivities in direct competition for several ions at the same time in one experiment.
The analyse of the aqueous receiving phase can be done for cations with ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma - atomic emission spectrometry). The ion chromatography is usuful for the determination of anion concentrations.
