Abstract

The polytrichously inserted flagella of Aquifex pyrophilus, a marine hyperthermophilic bacterium growing at 85 degrees C, were isolated and purified. Electron micrographs of the 19-nm-diameter flagellar filaments show prominent helical arrays of subunits.
