Alternative flagellar filament types in the haloarchaeon Haloarcula marismortui

Many Archaea use rotation of helical flagellar filaments for swimming motility. We isolated and characterized the flagellar filaments of Haloarcula marismortui, an archaeal species previously considered to be nonmotile.
