Abstract
A charge-ladder model is proposed for the conduction of DNA molecules. The charge density distributed over the atoms and bonds in a base is integrated into a single charged grain, and thereby the double strand is modeled as a two-leg charge ladder. We consider the strong intrastrand/interstrand repulsions to render the origin of the gapful and the gapless conductance observed in the recent experiments.
