Influences of the culture medium in the testing of antimycobacterial compounds

Abstract

The culture medium of Lowenstein-Jensen, which requires a heat coagulation step and which contains a high concn. of egg albumin, is not suitable for testing antimycobacterial compds. on Mycobacterium tuberculosis; however, the synthetic liq. medium Middlebrook-7H9, which has only 0.4% bovine serum albumin, is recommended.
