Abstract
The emission lifetime of MgPt(CN)₄ -7H₂O was measured. It increases by a factor of 10³ with a temperature decrease from 160 K to 3.5 K. The low temperature lifetime is 100 μs. ConsequentIy the transition from the lowest excited state is spin forbidden. At 60 K the salt seems to undergo a phase transition.
