Abstract
Extracts of cell walls from growing cotton fibres contain appreciable amounts of non-cellulosic glucans. Hydrolysis of these glucans by different types of glucanases and analysis of the degradation products as well as periodate oxidation and methylation studies, showed that they are essentially composed of β-1,3-linked glucose residues.
