Abstract (English)

The objective of this thesis is to elucidate the femtosecond dynamics of coupled low-energy excitations in both strongly correlated materials and artificially engineered quantum structures. By means of near-infrared pump/multi-THz probe spectroscopy and a series of technological innovations (a novel collinear four-pass Ti:Sapphire amplifier and shot-noise reduced electro-optic sampling), fundamentally new insights into the many-body physics of two representative strongly correlated materials are obtained:
- It is clarified which microscopic mechanisms underlie the formation of the charge density wave in the transition-metal dichalcogenide titanium diselenide (1T-TiSe2).
- A study of the high-temperature superconductor YBCO reveals that there exists no temporal hierarchy between electron-electron and electron-phonon scattering processes in this system.
Furthermore, non-adiabatic activation of ultrastrong light-matter interaction between a tailor-cut photonic resonance and an electronic excitation is realized and studied on a sub-cycle timescale. This further paves the way towards the observation of novel quantum-electrodynamical phenomena.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Untersuchung der Femtosekunden-Dynamik von gekoppelten niederenergetischen Elementaranregungen in stark korrelierten Materialien sowie in künstlichen Quanten-Systemen. Mittels Nahinfrarot-Anrege/Multi-THz-Abtast-Spektroskopie und einer Reihe technologischer Neuentwicklungen (einem neuartigen kollinearen Titan:Saphir Vierpass-Verstärker und schrotrausch-reduziertem elektro-optischen Abtasten), werden fundamental neue Erkenntnisse über die Vielteilchen-Physik in zwei repräsentativen stark korrelierten Materialien gewonnen:
- Es wird aufgeklärt, welche mikroskopische Mechanismen der Ladungsdichtewelle im Übergangsmetall-Dichalcogenid 1T-TiSe2 zu Grunde liegen.
- Eine Studie des Hochtemperatur-Supraleiters YBCO zeigt, dass es keine zeitliche Hierarchie zwischen Elektron-Elektron und Elektron-Phonon Streuprozessen in diesem System gibt.
Des Weiteren wird nicht-adiabatische Aktivierung von ultrastarker Licht-Materie Wechselwirkung zwischen einer maßgeschneiderten photonischen und einer elektronischen Resonanz demonstriert und auf einer Sub-Zyklen-Zeitskala untersucht. Dies stellt einen weiteren experimentellen Schritt hin zur erwarteten Beobachtung von neuartigen quanten-elektrodynamischen Phänomenen in ultrastark gekoppelten Systemen dar.
