Geschätzte 10-15% der Parkinsonpatienten leiden unter Motorfluktuationen, therapieresitentem Tremor oder medikamentösen Nebenwirkungen. Diese Patienten könnten von der tiefen Hiernstimulation profitieren. Jedoch erhalten lediglich 1-2% aller Parkinsonpatienten in Deutschland eine THS-Operation obwohl das Risiko ernsthafter chirurgischer Komplikaitonen niedrig ist. Ziel der Arbeit war, die Gründe ...

Abstract (German)

Geschätzte 10-15% der Parkinsonpatienten leiden unter Motorfluktuationen, therapieresitentem Tremor oder medikamentösen Nebenwirkungen. Diese Patienten könnten von der tiefen Hiernstimulation profitieren. Jedoch erhalten lediglich 1-2% aller Parkinsonpatienten in Deutschland eine THS-Operation obwohl das Risiko ernsthafter chirurgischer Komplikaitonen niedrig ist.
Ziel der Arbeit war, die Gründe für die zurückhaltende Überweisung der meisten Parkinsonpatienten in Deutschland zu spezialisierten Zentren zu verstehen und auf der anderen Seite die Akzeptanz des Verfahrens unter den Patienten aufzudecken.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Estimated 10-15% of PD-patients suffer from motor-fluctuations, medically refractory tremor or medication side-effects. Those patients improve from DBS-surgery. However only about 1-2% of all PD-patients in Germany receive DBS-surgery although the risk for severe surgical complications is low. Estimated 10-15% of PD-patients suffer from motor-fluctuations, medically refractory tremor or medication side-effects. Those patients improve from DBS-surgery. However only about 1-2% of all PD-patients in Germany receive DBS-surgery although the risk for severe surgical complications is low.
The objective of this survey was to understand those factors that prevent the majority of PD-patients in Germany to be referred to a specialised centre and to find out about the acceptance of DBS-surgery among patients.
