Purpose: To evaluate 3-, 6-,9- and 12-month follow up data including the effect on vision and anatomic outcome in patients treated with photodynamic therapy combined with anti-VEGF Therapie.
Study design: 40 patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration received received first a photodynamic therapy combined with Avastin®, later they were slitted up into three groups: One group received PDT and Avastin® again, the second group received PDT and Lucentis® and the third group received only Lucentis®.The ophthalmic evaluation included optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography.
Results:Mean dezimal vision pre-injection was 0,24 +/- 0,13, at 3 month was 0,29 +/- 0,48, at 6 month was 0,27 +/- 0,19, at 9 month was 0,22 +/- 0,18 and at 12 month was 0,18 +/- 0,18.
The therapy had no positive effect on the development of GLD and the retinal thickness.
Conclusion: The effect of the different therapy is noch equal. Lucentis® seems to be the better choice for patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.
