Abstract
Survivors of lightning injuries are rare in clinical routine. While lethality of lightning injuries is about 10%, survivors suffer from a consistent pattern of neurological and psychiatric disorders. In addition to immediate effects like surgical traumata, cardiac arrest and skin burns, delayed and long-term dysfunction of the central and peripheral nervous system can be observed regularly. Early diagnosis, specific classification and a long-term management of neurological and especially neuropsychological symptoms are essential for successful treatment.
