Detecting unemployment hysteresis: A simultaneous unobserved components model with Markov switching

We construct a new Markov-switching unobserved components framework for analysing hysteresis effects, featuring trend-cycle decomposition, identification of spillovers between the components and asymmetry over the business cycle.
