Discrepancies between actual and preferred working hours are a common phenomenon. Familiy responsibilities are often a reason for this finding. This dissertation focuses on the evolution of working hours constraints and evaluates two policies aiming at reconciling family and work life. The cumulative work examines firstly which factors within the family and job contribute to the creation and resolution of working hours constraints. In two following chapters the dissertation evaluates the effect of the expansion of child care and of a parental leave reform in 2015 on maternal employment.
