Long time tails in the quantum Hall effect

Abstract

The velocity correlation function of electrons in two dimensions and strong perpendicular magnetic fields is determined by numerical simulation in semiclassical approximation. The correlation for particles on extended trajectories turns out do decay ∝t −6/7 for large times. The correlation averaged over all trajectories decays approximately ∝t −2 (again for large times). The maximum conductivity between Hall plateaus comes out close toe 2/2h.
