Abstract

Background Disruption of Ca2+ homeostasis is a key pathomechanism in heart failure. CaMKII-dependent hyperphosphorylation of ryanodine receptors in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) increases the arrhythmogenic SR Ca2+ leak and depletes SR Ca2+ stores.
