Within this work, natural rubber latex (NRL) was isolated from roots of Russian dandelion and characterized. A process starting from the root to the characterized latex concentrate was described by adapting established concepts for colloidal systems, plant extraction and ordinary latex production. An understanding of the appropriate handling and preparation of the roots prior to extraction was obtained. Maintaining an intact root surface during harvest, followed by moist storage and thorough cleaning
was crucial for a successful latex extraction. Different approaches to latex extraction were investigated. A weaker root shredding led to extracts with better processing properties, but signi�cant latex losses during extraction could not be prevented by stronger shredding either. The flow method provided the most suitable extracts in terms of latex quality and processing effort. An adapted, enlarged extraction sequence could be designed and applied. Concentration and puri�cation of raw latex
was achieved by a step-by-step process. The application of repeated sequences of creaming, centrifugation and redilution resulted in protocols to produce latex with a solids content (SC) of over 60%. Correlations between solids content, contamination, stability and their effects on latex processing were established in order to develop concepts for dealing with different types of extract or raw latex. During extraction, concentration, puri�cation and storage, latex stabilization was achieved with solutions containing ethanolamine/ethanolamine-hydrochloride (ETA/ETA-HCl), oleates, sulfites and benzalkonium chloride (BAC). Latex could be processed into rubber foam by Synthomer Deutschland GmbH. Further colloidal properties could be determined and related to latex from other rubber-bearing plants, the respective isolation approach and the resulting handling and processing properties. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed a bimodal (BM) particle size distribution (PSD) with a weakly pronounced smaller mode and particle sizes increasing with the extent of the puri�cation. Zetapotential (ZP) measurements con�rmed the stability of differently obtained latex concentrates after storage, in the presence of electrolytes and after redilution. In addition, the protein concentration could be signi�cantly reduced.

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde Naturkautschuklatex (NRL) aus Wurzeln von russischem Löwenzahn isoliert und charakterisiert. Dabei wurde ein Prozess ausgehend von der Wurzel hin zum charakterisierten Latex durch Anpassung von Konzepten für kolloidale Systeme, Pflanzenextraktion und gewöhnliche Latexgewinnung beschrieben. Es wurde ein Verständnis für die geeignete Handhabung und Vorbereitung der Wurzeln vor der Extraktion erhalten. Die Erhaltung einer intakten Wurzeloberfläche während der Ernte, gefolgt von feuchter Lagerung und gründlicher Reinigung war entscheidend für eine erfolgreiche Latexextraktion. Es wurden verschiedene Ansätze zur Latexextraktion untersucht. Ein geringerer Zerkleinerungsgrad der Wurzeln führte zu Extrakten mit besseren Verarbeitungseigenschaften, aber signi�kante Latexverluste während der Extraktion konnten auch durch ein stärkeres Zerkleinern nicht verhindert werden. Die Flussmethode lieferte die hinsichtlich Latexqualität und Verarbeitungsaufwand am besten geeigneten Extrakte. Dabei konnte eine angepasste, vergrößerte Extraktionssequenz entworfen und angewendet werden. Die Konzentration und Aufreinigung
des Rohlatex wurde schrittweise erreicht. Die Anwendung wiederholter Sequenzen von Aufrahmen, Zentrifugieren und Verdünnen führte zu Protokollen zur Herstellung von Latex mit einem Feststoffgehalt (SC) von über 60%. Korrelationen zwischen Feststoffgehalt, Verunreinigungen, Stabilität und deren Auswirkungen auf die Latexverarbeitung wurden hergestellt, um Konzepte für den Umgang mit verschiedenen Arten von Rohlatex zu entwickeln. Während der Extraktion, Konzentration, Aufreinigung und Lagerung konnte der Latex mit Lösungen basierend auf Ethanolamin/Ethanolaminhydrochlorid (ETA/ETA-HCl), Oleaten, Sul�ten und
Benzalkoniumchlorid (BAC) stabilisiert werden. Der Latex konnte von der Synthomer Deutschland GmbH zu Latexschaum verarbeitet werden. Weitere kolloidale Eigenschaften konnten bestimmt und mit Latex aus anderen Kautschukträgern, dem jeweiligen Isolierungsansatz und daraus resultierenden Handhabungs- und Verarbeitungseigenschaften in Beziehung gesetzt werden. Mit dynamischer Lichtstreuung (DLS) wurde eine bimodale (BM) Partikelgrößenverteilung (PSD) mit schwach ausgeprägter kleineren Mode sowie mit dem Reinigungsgrad zunehmende Partikelgrößen bestimmt. Messungen des Zeta-Potentials (ZP) bestätigten die Stabilität verschiedener
Latexkonzentrate nach Lagerung, in Gegenwart von Elektrolyten und nach Verdünnung. Außerdem konnte die Proteinkonzentration signi�kant reduziert werden.
