Wikis sind weithin etablierte Werkzeuge im Bereich des organisationsinternen Wissensma-nagements. Sie werden in international tätigen Unternehmen und Non-Profit-Organisationen eingesetzt, um ihren Mitarbeitenden Wissenssammlungen und Dokumentationen bereitzustellen. Als Leuchtturmprojekt leistet die Wikipedia hinsichtlich der Sammlung und Distribution multilingualer Inhalte Pionierarbeit. Dennoch gibt es keine etablierten Muster und Verfahren, die dort eingesetzten spezifischen Vorgehensweisen in den Organisationskontext zu übertragen. Auch ist die wissenschaftliche Literatur in diesem Bereich sehr spärlich.
Hier setzt die vorliegende Studie an. Sie geht der Frage nach, wie diese mehrsprachigen Wikis gestaltet sind. Sie fragt nach den Potenzialen mehrsprachigen Wissensmanagements, untersucht Praktiken und berücksichtigt deren äußere Einflussfaktoren. Sie beleuchtet Stärken und Schwächen des Einsatzes mehrsprachiger Wikis und sucht nach Mustern und Best Practices.
Dabei setzt die Studie auf den wohldefinierten Methodenapparat der Mehrfachfallstudie und ergänzenden Literaturanalysen auf. Als Pilotfall wird die Wikipedia analysiert und die dortigen Praktiken werden beschrieben. Davon ausgehend wird die Implementierung von mehrsprachigen Wikis in neun weiteren Fällen anhand der Dimension Technik, Organisation, Mensch und Inhalt beleuchtet und verglichen.
Zwei Praktiken stellen sich als Grundlage der untersuchten Fälle heraus: Übersetzung und Parallel Authoring. Die technische Implementierung variiert sehr stark und ist von den jeweiligen Kompetenzen der Beteiligten abhängig. Als Determinante einer Entwicklung von Prototypen stellt sich der Grad der Öffnung für Communities heraus, die in den verschiedenen Phasen der Erstellung mehrsprachiger Inhalte gegeben ist.
Im Ergebnis zeigen sich verallgemeinerbare Prototypen und Muster, die für eine Weiter-entwicklung des Themas auch oder gerade mit Blick auf den zunehmenden Einsatz auto-matisierter Übersetzungstechniken fruchtbar gemacht werden können. Es stellt sich heraus, dass ein zentrales Moment der Arbeit in Wikis, die immerwährende Imperfektion, gut mit den Einsatzszenarien einer imperfekten manuellen wie maschinellen Übersetzung korrespondiert.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Wikis are widely established tools in the field of internal organizational knowledge man-agement. They are used in internationally active companies and non-profit organizations to provide their employees with knowledge collections and documentation. As a lighthouse project, Wikipedia is pioneering the collection and distribution of multilingual content. Nevertheless, there are no established patterns and procedures for transferring the specific procedures used there to the organizational context. The scientific literature in this area is also very sparse.
The present study aims to fill this gap. It explores the question of how these multilingual wikis are designed. It asks about the potentials of multilingual knowledge management, explores practices and considers their external influencing factors. It examines the strengths and weaknesses of the use of multilingual wikis and searches for patterns and best practices.
In doing so, the study builds on the well-defined methodological apparatus of the multiple case study and complementary literature analyses. Wikipedia is analyzed as a pilot case and its practices are described. Based on this, the implementation of multilingual wikis in nine further cases is examined and compared on the basis of the dimensions of technology, organization, people and content.
Two practices emerge as the basis of the cases studied: translation and Parallel Authoring. The technical implementation varies greatly and depends on the respective competencies of the people involved. A determinant of prototype development is the degree of openness to communities that is present in the various phases of multilingual content creation.
As a result, generalizable prototypes and patterns emerge that can be made fruitful for a further development of the topic, also or especially with regard to the increasing use of automated translation techniques. It turns out that a central moment of work in wikis, the perpetual imperfection, corresponds well with the application scenarios of imperfect man-ual and machine translation.
