Two-photon excitation spectra of naphthalene and acenaphthene were measured up to 50,000 cm-1. In naphthalene, 3 2-photon allowed states were obsd. for which the symmetry assignment was confirmed by polarization. The corresponding transitions were also seen in acenaphthene. The exptl. data are in excellent agreement with theor. predictions.
