The core ionization was compared of free and adsorbed N2 to N2 bound head-on (with a linear N2-metal bond) to a metal atom in a mononuclear organometallic compd., namely h5-dicarbonyl-cyclopentadienyl-dinitrogen-manganese(I). The core ionization was compared of free and adsorbed N2 to N2 bound head-on (with a linear N2-metal bond) to a metal atom in a mononuclear organometallic compd., namely h5-dicarbonyl-cyclopentadienyl-dinitrogen-manganese(I). A comprehensive assignment is given for the full spectrum including main lines and satellite lines on the basis of numerical calcns. The conclusions were compared to those earlier derived for CO complexes and adsorbates. The importance of doubly excited configurations for a correct description of the satellite excitation energies is discussed.
