Pump-induced population changes in broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering

Abstract

Bu using a powerful, excimer-laser-pumped broadband CARS system, considerable changes were obsd. in the populations of room-temp. N2 under atm. pressure. Pump-induced populations in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd vibronic bands of N2 at room temp. resulted in an apparent vibrational temp. of 2550 K. The implications for broadband N2 CARS thermometry are discussed.
