High pressure synthesis of molybdenum nitride MoN

Abstract

Molybdenum nitride was synthesized by the reduction of molybdenum dioxide with ammonium chloride under extreme conditions of high pressure and high temperature. The product was examined with XRD measurement. The results show that the MoN has the hexagonal symmetry with lattice constants of a=0.572(9) nm, c=0.560(4) nm, and space group of P6(3)/mmc.
