Abstract
The current state of data offers only insufficient possibilities for the risk assessment of tattoo inks. Furthermore, the long-term exposure, the potential long-term damage and the causes of many diseases associated with tattoos are not known (yet). Researchers from different countries are working on this question with the intention of understanding as much as possible about tattoos. This knowledge may then be applied to produce safer tattoo inks.
