Abstract (German)

In dieser Arbeit wurde der Effekt der Lokalisation von Gehirntumoren im Bezug auf neuroplastische Prozesse in sprachrelevanten Arealen mittels funktioneller Magnetresonanztomographie untersucht. Im Zuge dessen wurden 97 Patienten mit Gliomen in der linken Hemisphäre in oder nahe den Sprachzentren analysiert. Die Tumorpatienten wurden in eine frontale, präzentrale, anterior-temporale, temporal-mediale und posterior-temporale Gruppe kategorisiert. Die sprachbezogene Aktivität während dreier Sprachparadigmen wurde innerhalb der fünf Tumorgruppen untereinander sowie mit einer gesunden Kontrollgruppe mittels whole brain Analyse, ROI-Analyse und Analyse der Lateralisierungsindizes verglichen. Es zeigten sich v.a. bei Patienten mit Tumoren in links posterior-temporalen Arealen signifikante Unterschiede im Vergleich zur gesunden Kontrollgruppe. Auch zeigte sich, verglich man die Tumorgruppen untereinander, eine vermehrte rechtsseitige Aktivität bei links posterior-temporalen Tumoren im Vergleich zu links frontalen. Zudem ergaben sich in der posterioren Tumorgruppe Hinweise auf eine hemispherielle Verlagerung der Sprachaktivität in homologe rechte Areale.

This study investigated the effect of brain tumor location on neuroplastic processes in language-related areas using functional magnetic resonance imaging. In the course of this study, 97 patients with gliomas in the left hemisphere in or near the language centers were analyzed. The tumor patients were categorized into frontal, precentral, anterior temporal, medial temporal, and posterior temporal groups. Language-related activity during three language paradigms was compared within the five tumor groups and with a healthy control group using whole brain analysis, ROI analysis, and analysis of lateralization indices. Significant differences compared to the healthy control group were found, especially in patients with tumors in the left posterior temporal areas. When comparing the tumor groups with each other, increased right-sided activity was also observed in left posterior temporal tumors compared to left frontal tumors. In addition, there were indications of a hemispheric shift of language activity to homologous right areas in the posterior tumor group.
