The multiFACE project comprises a series of studies conducted at the University of Konstanz (Lurija Institute), the University of Vienna, and the University of Regensburg, focusing on the topic of chronic fatigue. Studies range from developed concepts for assessments of Chronic Fatigue and post-exertional Malaise to individual or group psychotherapy for persons with Chronic Fatigue. The concepts are based on neuropsychological and cognitive behavioral perspectives. multiFACE stands for multi-dimensional assessment and treatment of FAtigue and Fatigability on Cognitive, Emotional, and motor domains. The study builds on the understanding that chronic fatigue is a heterogeneous, non-unitary phenomenon that can occur across a range of conditions, including Post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS), post COVID, multiple sclerosis, ME/CFS, and brain injury. By integrating these dimensions, multiFACE provides a comprehensive and nuanced approach to Fatigue and Fatigability, enabling better understanding, diagnosis, and targeted interventions. The beginning of the project (2022-2024) was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg (https://mwk.baden-wuerttemberg.de/en/), within the framework of the special funding line for COVID-19, part of the measures to combat the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic (“Sonderförderlinie COVID-19, Teil der Maßnahmen zur Bekämpfung der Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2-Pandemie”) in the field of medical research (grant number MWK33-7532-56[MT1] ). The grant was awarded to Jennifer Randerath in 2022 and contributed to the doctoral dissertation of Melanie Tempfli.
