Abstract (German)
Orientiert an den Methoden der literaturwissenschaftlichen gender studies untersucht diese Studie die Bedeutung und Gestaltung der Kategorie Geschlecht in den Gedichten von vier Dichterinnen der russischen Moderne: Zinaida Gippius, Elena Guro, Anna Achmatova und Marina Cvetaeva. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dem Problem, wie diese Texte, die mit einem weiblichen Autornamen verknüpft sind, dichterische Autorität zu entwickeln suchen. So werden zum einen die thematischen Kontexte beleuchtet, in denen die Gedichte der Autorinnen ein weibliches lyrisches Ich nutzen (können). Zum anderen werden textliche Signale isoliert, die als Strategien eines Autoritätserwerbs für die weiblichen Sprechinstanzen innerhalb der zeitgenössischen poetischen Diskurse lesbar werden. Auf einer zweiten Ebene wird die semantische Gestaltung der Kategorie Geschlecht untersucht. So wird nicht nur verdeutlicht, welche Bedeutungskomplexe als weiblich bzw. männlich markiert werden, sondern vor allem auch deren Wertung und das daraus resultierende Machtverhältnis der Geschlechter analysiert. Zudem erfolgt ein Abgleich der in den Texten entwickelten Konzeptionen von Geschlecht mit Geschlechtervorstellungen im damaligen Russland und in den zeitgenössischen literarischen Strömungen. Besonderes Augenmerk richtet sich hier auf die Interaktion der Kategorie Geschlecht mit der Gattung Lyrik, insbesondere auf die Frage, welche Ausformung weithin als lyriktypisch wahrgenommene und traditionell weiblich konnotierte Bedeutungskomplexe wie etwa Emotionalität und Subjektivität in den Gedichten der vier Autorinnen erfahren. Die Interferenz zwischen Gattung und Geschlecht reicht jedoch über den thematischen Bereich hinaus. So wird gezeigt, wie die Gedichte geschlechtlich markierte Bedeutung auch auf der Ebene der Signifikanten, vor allem über die Strukturierung von Lautlichkeit und Rhythmus, erzeugen. In den entwickelten Modellen weiblichen bzw. männlichen poetischen Sprechens erhalten die thematischen Ausgestaltungen von Geschlecht und das Problem der Autorität weiblicher lyrischer Sprechinstanzen ihre spezifische sprachliche Umsetzung, die den für jede Autorin unterschiedlichen Umgang mit dem, textintern häufig als problematisch ausgewiesenen, Verhältnis zwischen Weiblichkeit und lyrischer Sprachtradition realisiert. Der abschließende Vergleich der vier Ansätze belegt nicht nur die � auch der Zugehörigkeit der Texte zu verschiedenen Stilformationen geschuldete � Variationsbreite in der Gestaltung der Kategorie Geschlecht, sondern verdeutlicht auch, dass Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede mit der grundsätzlich eingenommenen Haltung zum kulturellen Umfeld und den dominanten Geschlechterkonzeptionen korrespondieren.

This study explores the semantic construction of gender in the poems of four Russian modernist writers: Zinaida Gippius, Elena Guro, Anna Akhmatova and Marina Cvetaeva. Starting from the assumption that Russian poetry before the 20th century had been a genre widely dominated by male perspectives, the study shows, in which thematic contexts the poems make use of a female speaker, and analyses the rhetoric strategies supposed to furnish the female voice with the authority to speak within the poetic discourse. On a second level, the semantic structuring of �femininity� and �masculinity� is explored. The ideas of �female� and �male�, as developed by the poems, are read before the background of gender conceptions dominating contemporary Russian culture and those en vogue in the various literary currents of the time. Special attention is paid to the relative value the texts attach to the concepts they mark as �female� or �male� and to the power relations arising from this valuation. Poetry may be regarded as the genre most thoroughly exploiting the semantic potential of the phonetic aspects of language. Therefore, the analysis reaches beyond the thematic level and surveys the concrete ways of female / male speaking as they become visible in the poetic use of the language material. Exploring the relationship between the thematic construction of gender on the one hand, and the rhythmic / phonetic structuring of the female / male poetic voices on the other hand, for each author patterns of female / male language use can be described. As the analysis shows, the texts of the four authors take rather different approaches to the conception of gender. The specific construction of gender relations, of a female poetic authority and a poetic language marked as female within the texts, however, does not seem to be arbitrary, but to be widely correspondent with the fundamental attitude the texts display towards their cultural context in general and the culturally dominant gender systems they have to cope with.
