Abstract (German)
Der Glaube an einen Zahnwurm als Verursacher von Zahnschmerzen existierte bereits vor 4000 Jahren und in den verschiedensten Kulturen. Der Ursprung dieses Glaubens wird zurückverfolgt und es wird ein zusamenhängender geschichtlicher Überblick dieses Volksglaubens bis in das 20. Jahrhundert gegeben. In der Volksmedizin existierten verschiedene Therapien zur Bekämpfung des Wurms, die ebenfalls erörtert werden.
Translation of the abstract (English)
The concept of a toothworm which causes toothache has existed since 4000
B. C. and in diverse cultures. The origin of this belief will be retraced and a complete historical overview of this popular medical belief until the 20th century is given. In popular medicine numerous therapies existed to eradicate the worm, which are also discussed.
