Abstract

The polar metal-metal bond of [ Ph3PAuI-Co-I(CO)4 ] was cleaved photochemically by metal to metal ( Co-I -> Au+I) charge transfer excitation. Metallic gold, Ph3P, and [Co2(CO)8] were formed as products.
