Abstract
A review is given in which the following topics were discussed: the ion canal as site of action of local anesthetics, effect of local anesthetics on the stimulation of nerves, binding of local anesthetics (ephedrine derivs.), and activity studies with enantiomeric local anesthetics (i.e. dimethylalanine derivs.) at various pH. The action of the local anesthetics involves the inhibition of permeability processes, which are increased by mobile membrane structures. The quant. graduation of single activities can be explained by the different chem. structure of the cellular components.
