This work was focused on techniques of preparing metallic cobalt nanoparticles. As synthesis method the reduction of metal salts via hot-injection was chosen. The selection of precursors consists of cobalt(II) acetate tetrahydrate, cobalt(II) stearate and cobalt(II) hydroxide. As primary surfactants oleic acid, stearic acid and lauric acid were used. As secondary surfactant trioctylphosphine, as reducing agent 1,2 dodecanediol and as solvent di-octylether have been used respectively. The different parameters of the syntheses, e.g. time or temperature of growth, were characterized with optimized experiments. All systems have shown a behaviour which is consistent with the LaMer theory. Especially the precursor concentration revealed itself as a powerful parameter for controlling the nucleation and growth phases. Morphology and size of the particles were examined with transmission electron microscopy. The crystal structure of the products was determined by X-ray powder diffraction. The interactions between the metallic particles and the primary surfactants were examined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In order to gain insight about the magnetic behavior of the particles magnetometric SQUID measurements were performed. The application of the products in magnetic composites, as the usage of dynamic light scattering and the Scherrer formula for particle size determination are shortly noticed.
