Abstract
A recent hypernetted-chain study has yielded mol. correlations functions of a nonaq. electrolyte soln. In the present work, these functions were used to calc. small-angle-neutron-scattering (SANS) intensities of this soln., in the framework of the so-called "contrast-approxn." commonly used for the interpretation of this kind of expts. A comparison of this result to a rigorous calcn. of the total scattering cross section revealed serious inconsistencies, even at very small scattering angles. Therefore, the question is raised as to whether the contrast approxn. can give a realistic description of SANS data.
