Rasterkraftmikroskope sind essentielle Hilfsmittel zur Untersuchung der atomaren Struktur von Oberflächen. Für die Interpretation der Messung ist es allerdings in vielen Fällen notwendig, genaue Information über die chemischen und strukturellen Eigenschaften des Spitzenclusters zu haben. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird gezeigt, dass sowohl die kristallographische Orientierung als auch die chemische Identität des Spitzenatoms einer Metallspitze durch Abtasten eines CO-Moleküls, welches auf einer Kupferoberfläche adsorbiert ist, identifiziert werden kann. Im zweiten Teil wird die Abbildung von epitaktischem Graphen auf SiC mit so charakterisierten Metallspitzen sowie mit einer CO-Spitze untersucht. Dabei zeigt sich, dass Graphen mit Metallspitzen nicht wahrheitsgetreu abgebildet werden kann. Außerdem führt die starke Anziehung zwischen Metallspitzen und Graphen, beziehungsweise auf Graphen adsorbierten Molekülen, zu Problemen in der Abbildung, wie Instabilitäten oder einer Kontamination der Metallspitze. Mit der inerten CO-Spitze wird die Graphenoberfläche bei moderaten Abständen zwischen Spitze und Probe realistisch abgebildet. Für kleine Abstände führt die Relaxation der CO-Spitze allerdings zu Artefakten in der Abbildung. Außerdem wird die Schwingung des Kraftsensors anharmonisch, was auf die Ausbildung einer Bindung zwischen der Graphenlage und der darunterliegenden Kohlenstoffschicht zurückgeführt wird.

Translation of the abstract (English)

Atomic force microscopes are essential tools for the investigation of surfaces on the atomic scale. In many cases, however, it is mandatory to have detailed information about the chemical and structural properties of the tip cluster for a clear interpretation of the measurements. In the first part of the thesis it is shown that both the crystallographic orientation and the chemical nature of a metal tip atom can be identified by probing a CO molecule attached to a copper surface. In the second part imaging of epitaxial graphene with metal tips characterized with this method, and a CO tip is studied. It is found that metal tips cannot truthfully image the atomic structure of graphene. Additionally, the strong attraction between metal tips and graphene or organic molecules adsorbed on graphene leads to problems in the imaging like instabilities in the tip sample junction or contamination of the tip apex. In contrast, with the CO tip the graphene surface is imaged realistically at moderate tip sample distances. However, for small tip sample distances relaxations of the CO tip lead to artefacts in the images. Additionally, the oscillation of the force sensor is found to become anharmonic which is attributed to the formation of a bond between the graphene layer and the underlying carbon layer.
