Erektile Dysfunktion (ED) tritt gehäuft bei Patienten mit obstruktiver Schlafapnoe (OSA) auf und ist ein Surrogat für vaskuläre und endotheliale Dysfunktion. Weiterhin ist auch eine eingeschränkte Vigilanzleistung mit OSA assoziiert und könnte sich eine gemeinsame Pathophysiologie mit ED teilen.
Ziel dieser Studie war es, herauszufinden, ob ED mit einer eingeschränkten Vigilanzleistung assoziiert ist.
Dazu wurden bei 381 konsekutiven männlichen Patienten mit Verdacht auf OSA eine diagnostische Polysomnographie und ein 25-minütiger Vigilanztest durchgeführt. ED wurde mit dem International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15) Fragebogen und mithilfe des Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) Fragebogens wurde Tagesschläfrigkeit erfasst.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is frequent in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and may act as a surrogate for vascular and endothelial dysfunction. Moreover, impaired vigilance and sustained attention is also associated with OSA and may share a common pathophysiology with ED.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether there is an association between ED and impaired vigilance.
A prospective cross-sectional cohort of 381 male in-patients undergoing diagnostic polysomnography for suspected OSA and a 25-minute sustained attention test was analyzed. ED was assessed using the 15-item International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15) questionnaire. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) served as a measure of daytime sleepiness.
