Abstract (English)

A local multistate response method for the description of high-spin open-shell molecules is presented. Going from a ROHF-MO basis to semi-canonical basis, enables the building of the effective singles eigenvalue problem. Further the Laplace-transform trick allows for an efficient way to calculate the doubles vector of the Jacobian in local basis.

An energy based criterion to restrict the ground state pair list, instead of a distance criterion, turns out to be the better choice, especially in case of the extended alkane doublet radicals. And is in general recommended in cases where strong localization of the occupied spin orbitals is not possible due to the nature of the molecule.
To get acceptable deviations (< 0.05 eV) from canonical excitation energies, it is necessary to extend the Boughton-Pulay domains by inclusion of the next connected neighbours with iext=1. The presented results for excitation energies, ionisation potentials and electron affinities do in average not exceed an error of 0.13 eV compared to the Delta-CCSD(T) method. The lowest two excitation energies calculated for N-(2,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-1,8-naphthalimide anion are in very good agreement with the experimental values (deviation < 0.025 eV).

The so-called T1-diagnostics for the developed method is defined.
For alkane radicals, already values slightly larger than 0.02 may indicate a clear multi-reference case and thus methods describing static correlation have to be applied. For other radicals tested in this thesis, the developed method produces reasonable results up to T1 values of 0.05. When going to larger values, it is always recommended to check if static correlation has to be taken into account.

From the computational point of view one needs only around twice more time than a corresponding local closed-shell calculation. Due to the local scheme, this method shows a lower scaling behaviour with system size than a corresponding canonical one. This makes the method applicable to extended molecular systems. In this work the method is successfully tested on systems containing up to 98 atoms.

Es wird eine lokale multistate Response Methode zur Beschreibung von offenschaligen high-spin Molekülen präsentiert. Durch den Übergang von der ROHF-MO Basis in die semikanonische Basis, wird das Bilden des effektiven Singles-Eigenwert-Problems ermöglicht. Die Laplace-Transformation ermöglicht eine effiziente Berechnung des Doubles Vektors der Jakobi-Matrix in einer lokalen Basis.

Einschränkung der Grundzustandspaarliste aufgrund eines Energiekriteriums, anstatt eines Abstandskriteriums, erweist sich als die bessere Wahl, insbesondere im Falle von ausgedehnten Alkanradikalen. Und wird im allgemeinen empfohlen, wenn eine gute Lokalisierung der besetzten Spinorbitale nicht gewährleistet ist. Um akzeptable Abweichungen von kanonischen Anregungsenergien zu erhalten, ist es notwendig die Boughton-Pulay Domänen durch die nächst verbundenen Nachbaratomen mit iext=1 zu erweitern. Die präsentierten Resultate für Anregungsenergien, Ionisationspotentiale und Elektronenaffinitäten weichen im Mittel nicht mehr als 0.13 eV von den Delta-CCSD(T) Ergebnissen ab. Die zwei niedrigsten berechneten Anregungsenergien von N-(2,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-1,8-naphthalimid Anion stimmen sehr gut mit den experimentellen Werten überein (Abweichung < 0.025 eV).

Die sogenannte T1-Diagnostik wird für die entwickelte Methode definiert. Für Alkanradikale können bereits Werte leicht größer als 0.02 auf einen Multireferenzfall hinweisen. In diesen Fällen müssen Methoden zur Beschreibung von statischer Korrelation herangezogen werden. Für andere Radikale, die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit untersucht wurden, erhält man vernünftige Ergebnisse bis zu einem T1-Diagnostik-Wert von 0.05. Bei größeren Werten wird empfohlen zu kontrollieren, ob nicht statische Korrelation berücksichtigt werden muss.

Vom rechnerischen Gesichtspunkt aus, benötigt man nur zwei mal soviel Rechenzeit wie eine entsprechende lokale Rechnung eines geschlossenschaligen Systems. Aufgrund der lokalen Nährungen zeigt diese Methode ein niedrigeres Skalierungsverhalten mit der Systemgröße im Vergleich zur kanonischen Methode. Das ermöglicht die Anwendung auf ausgedehnte Molekülsysteme. In dieser Arbeit wurden Moleküle mit bis zu 98 Atomen erfolgreich getestet.
