This monograph helps historians design a low-threshold introductory course on historical statistics. The course aims at providing students with elementary knowledge enabling them to understand historical studies that apply statistical methods. Elementary is meant to include the tools of descriptive statistics and correlation analysis in the first place. We develop the course along these core themes: Objective and target groups; statistical reasoning; basic knowledge; pitfalls; the typical quantifying research approach; and course design.
