Jurisdiction is of high importance within the European Union (EU). Rule of law, which is recognised as a basic principle, requires far-reaching judicial competence. The independence of the EU judge is an essential element. The particular status and function of the EU judge, the Court of Justice (CJ), and of the General Court (GC) are analyzed in the following chapter.
