Abstract

Rationale: X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a rare disorder caused by mutations in the ABCD1 gene, coding for peroxisomal membrane transporter adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) protein. The disease is characterized by accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) in tissues.
