Abstract

Autotrophic Crenarchaeota use two different cycles for carbon dioxide fixation. Members of the Sulfolobales use the 3-hydroxypropionate/4-hydroxybutyrate (HP/HB) cycle, whereas Desulfurococcales and Thermoproteales use the dicarboxylate/4-hydroxybutyrate cycle.
