Abstract (English)

This thesis presents five studies that explore the effects of whole body vibration (WBV) on different cognitive functions. Study 1 investigates possible effects of WBV on different attentional functions. Study 2 examines the effects of WBV on task performance in an attentional test of high task complexity following WBV exposure. Study 3 investigates the effects of WBV exposure on subsequent test performance in a mental rotation task. Study 4 examines the effects of WBV on subsequent learning and recall from long-term memory. Study 5 investigates the effects of WBV on the control of cognitive interference using a Stroop task. The results of the five studies reveal different implications concerning the requirements that should be regarded to obtain beneficial effects of WBV on cognition.

Die vorliegende Arbeit berichtet fünf Studien, welche die Auswirkungen von Ganzkörpervibration (GKV) auf verschiedene kognitive Funktionen untersuchen. Studie 1 untersucht mögliche Auswirkungen von GKV auf verschiedene Aufmerksamkeitsfunktionen. Studie 2 untersucht die Auswirkungen von GKV auf die Aufgabenleistung in einem Aufmerksamkeitstest mit hoher Aufgabenkomplexität nach WBV-Exposition. Studie 3 untersucht die Auswirkungen einer GKV-Exposition auf die nachfolgende Testleistung in einer mentalen Rotationsaufgabe. Studie 4 untersucht die Auswirkungen von GKV auf das nachfolgende Lernen und Abrufen aus dem Langzeitgedächtnis. Studie 5 untersucht die Auswirkungen von GKV auf die Interferenzkontrolle unter Verwendung einer Stroop-Aufgabe. Die Ergebnisse der fünf Studien zeigen unterschiedliche Implikationen hinsichtlich der Anforderungen, die berücksichtigt werden sollten, um positive Effekte von GKV auf Kognition zu erzielen.
