Life Skills as a Resource in Psychosomatic Medicine. The LK-18 Inventory Abstract. Life skills are competences that lead to a salutogenetic lifestyle and can also serve as a basis and important indicator for the therapeutic process. This article presents a self-assessment instrument that was surveyed in N = 2,054 inpatients undergoing psychosomatic treatment. We validated the construct of the instrument in a double survey, exploratory and confirmatory. The questionnaire LK-18 comprises 18 items divided into 6 factors with 3 items each. These include the dimensions of positive feelings, personal competencies, engagement, meaning, success, and goal achievement as well as social relationships. Cronbach's alpha values lie between .74 and .85 and for the total score .91. An RMSEA of .062 indicates an acceptable model fit. As an external correlate, the psychosomatic symptom load using the ICD10-based symptom rating scale (ISR) showed highly significant mean negative correlations in the range of -.22 to -.69. Depression correlates with the total score up to -.69. Negative correlations to posttraumatic stress (r = -.27, p < .001) were also shown as well as a positive correlation to the structural level according to OPD-2 of r = .32 (p < .001). The results demonstrate the validity and change sensitivity of the questionnaire, making it a suitable additional instrument for the use in psychosomatic diagnostics.
