Synthesis of a functionalized Cyclohepten-one from Erythronic acid-4-lactone

Abstract

A convenient two-step synthesis of a functionalized and chiral cyclohepten-one 4, which may serve as a useful building block in synthesis, is reported. The X-ray structure analysis of the intermediate hemiacetal 2 reveals the presence of a single anomer in the solid state, that equilibrates rapidly in solution. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
