The cyclohexane-1,2-diaminetetraacetate ion forms the octahedral [Co(Cdta)](-) complex through two donor nitrogen atoms and four oxygen atoms and is also connected to two barium atoms through oxygens. The Ba atoms are on a twofold axis. Its nearest environment comprises five O atoms of water molecules, one also being located on a twofold axis, and four O atoms of the four neighboring complex ions. This gives infinite layers parallel to the ab plane. All water molecules form hydrogen bonds within one layer.
