Based on the long-term work of scientific institutions and SDOs dedicated to system architectures, an interoperability framework is presented to help navigating through existing, emerging and even future standards for comprehensive interoperability of health and social services. HL7 artifacts as well as work product of competing organizations are classified and semi-formally interrelated. The methodology is proven in many standard developments and health information systems implementation projects.
